‘Changes to the OAP’
Effective Feb 2019, our Ministry (MCCSS) announced significant changes to the Ontario Autism Program (OAP).
Families who have been waiting for Autism Service will now be given a childhood budget which will allow them to directly purchase services for their children from a provider of their choice.
To learn more about these details visit the mccss website at http://www.children.gov.on.ca/htdocs/english/specialneeds/autism/ontario-autism-program.aspx
If your child is currently registered for the program you do not need to register again.
All children and youth under the age of 18 with a written diagnosis of autism from a qualified professional can register for the program.
Although we continue to provide direct service to children with existing behavioural plans at this time, Effective April 1, 2019 we no longer accept new referrals.
Contact the ministry’s Central Intake and Registration Team to register (1-888-444-4530). Once your registration is complete, your child will be added to the waitlist. Families will receive a letter from the ministry when it is time for them to apply for a Childhood Budget.
“Families who suspect autism/autism spectrum disorder in their child but do not have a diagnosis should proceed towards assessment by having their family physician make a referral requesting diagnostics for Autism/Autism Spectrum Disorder to one of the following:
- Kids Inclusive, Kingston
- Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO)
- Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre
- Or you may utilize the services of a private psychologist.”
Lanark, Leeds & Grenville Autism Services at LCP (a Part of LRHCS) will now be transitioning to a fee-for-service provider.
We appreciate this will require some time and effort on our part to make this shift but we are eager & excited to work with families in our communities to offer a variety of service options that are responsive to needs.
Here at Lanark Community Programs we have a multi-disciplinary team of qualified professionals in house which includes our BCBA Clinical Supervisors, Speech & Language Pathologists, & Occupational Therapy Consultation.
Our Promise is to keep families informed as new information becomes available to us in the next phase of our program.
If you are interested in our fee-for service options, please contact us at 613-257-7619 or send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will have a Family Support Coordinator speak with you.
